Do not put That in your Juicer!

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Many juicer recipes have been set out for the public’s use. Juicers of all kinds and designs are created to make it easier for customers to do juicing.

Yet like all else, everything has their own limitations. In this case, even if you have a power juicer, there are still things that aren’t supposed to be placed in there.

One example of which is the banana. The banana is so soft that there’s really only a little bit of fresh juice in them. You will be left with a mushy mess after placing it in and can even cause your juicer to malfunction. What you can do though is blend the bananas with the juices that you previously made. This way, you still get the nutrients in it and still have that juice you want.

Another wicked thing to place in a fruit juicer is an Avocado. They have a buttery soft texture and will make it impossible to remove the juices from them, leaving you with a sticky mess. You can also add and blend this with other juices you’ve made.

The capability to juice leafy greens depends on how strong your electric juicer is and even with that, there’s only little juice that can be extracted.

Coconuts are also one thing that’s hard to juice or probably has never even been tried.

Even if the above-stated fruits are a no-no, there are still a lot of fruits that can help you with your juice diet and can be processed in your juicers too.

Tips in Juicing

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Whatever juicer recipes you will choose, there are certain tips and tricks that will help you in achieving that healthy drink full of goodness and rich in flavor. Here are some of them:

  1. Always leave your juicers within eye-viewing range: on countertops, kitchen counters, etc. Make sure that it is very visible and you can’t miss it by any chance. This serves as a constant reminder for you to keep on juicing.
  2. Wash the vegetables or fruits that you’ll be juicing but don’t let them soak in the water for too long. Otherwise, the nutrients might leak out into the water.
  3. Most nutrients are found in the layer right under the peel. If you want to peel, make sure that you are only taking out a thin layer to keep the anti-oxidants, nutrients and minerals intact.
  4. You should drink the juices right after juicing. Don’t leave them out and come back later. Chances are, they’ll lose parts of their nutrients especially when they get exposed to air causing oxidization. After all, they aren’t called fresh juices for nothing.
  5. Vegetable juices have strong tastes that only few can take. This is mostly why people go along with fruit juice diets instead. If you decide to juice vegetables, moderate its blandness or strong taste by adding in water.
  6. If you have other medications to take, always consult your doctors before juicing. Also, never take your medicines with your juices. There are some fruits and vegetables that can weaken the body’s ability to absorb the medicine. If you must, take your meds a few hours after you’ve drank the juice.
  7. Always wash your juice extractors. It is best to wash them right after using them to avoid the pulps from sticking.
  8. Don’t stop at the traditional juicer recipes out there. Play with other fruits and vegetables and conjure up with one of your own concoctions. Put that power juicer to work and discover one unique juicer recipe for yourself.

For those who aren’t familiar with fennels, this is a vegetable that has two distinct areas that can be juiced. For this recipe, we will need one fennel bulb, one red pepper, four medium carrots and two apples. The bulb section of the fennel is at the base of the plant and the juice in this recipe gives a unique and distinct natural aniseed or licorice flavor to the drink that is sweet. Fennel is a great choice for adding different flavors into the normal fresh juices.

The juice from the bell pepper, carrots and apple contain an abundance of vitamins A and C, natural sugars and enzymes. Fennel juice assists in detoxifying the liver and is also a diuretic. Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

People suffer from dry skin due to the cold weather and strong winds during winter time and this can be very stressful to the body. Flaky skin that become tight and get easily irritated can affect the mood and confidence of a person. A regular juice diet can contribute to healthy skin because of the vitamins and oils they contain. This juicer recipe for dry skin combines both sources of essential oils and makes them available in a form that the body can easily assimilate. Fresh juices are the best when it comes to combating dry skin because they are also excellent sources of pure water which helps to rehydrate the skin.

Many oils required for healthy skin can also be seen in products that are rich in essential fatty acids which contain Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9. There are lots of products that can be found in supermarkets which contain organic flax, sesame and sunflower oils as well as germ of rice and oats. Regular consumption of this oil blend can give you healthy looking skin, nails and hair.

For this recipe, you will need two medium or large carrots, half red pepper, two clementines and two teaspoons of the Ultimate Oil Blend of your choice. Peel the carrots if they’re not organic, core and deseed the pepper, then peel the clementines but leave most of the pith because they contain phytochemicals that assist the body in absorbing vitamin C. Combine all ingredients in your electric juicer and add the oil into the remainder of the beverage. Give it a quick mix and then it’s ready to drink.

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

For those people that are looking to have an energy boost within the day, here’s a juicer recipe that can perk you up pretty good. This beverage consists of eight medium carrots, three apples and an inch of ginger. It is ideal if you require a bit of pep up in the morning because it will give you all the energy you need for a busy day.

Make sure you wash the apples thoroughly in warm water, if possible, since fruits nowadays have been commercially grown and may contain wax to preserve their shelf life. The ginger will help boost your blood circulation and give a nice edge to the juice’s flavor. Simply mix all three ingredients into the juice extractor and you’ll have a pint of Road Runner Energy Boost drink.

In order to boost your immune system, this next recipe is important because it contains high levels of vitamin C. All you need is two yellow peppers, three oranges, two apples, two pears, half a grapefruit and of course, a power juicer. Bell peppers are great sources of vitamin C, and red and yellow peppers contain twice as much vitamins compared to green peppers.

First thing you need to do is to thoroughly wash and deseed the peppers and peel the oranges and grapefruit, then leave the pith on the citrus fruit because piths contain bioflavanoids which help the body absorb the vitamin C. Put all the ingredients in the electric juicer and chill.

How to Make Purple’s Passion and Basils Waldorf

Friday, July 24th, 2009

The classic combination of celery and apple, which are two of the main ingredients in a waldorf salad, is what we need to create this fresh juice. You will need four Granny Smith unpeeled apples, two sticks of celery and two pinches of ground cinnamon. The cinnamon gives the juice a comforting and lifting aroma while the apples are said to provide energy through their natural sugars. Make sure you leave the skin on the apples because the nutritional content is stored in that part.

Celery is often used as a diuretic and so this juice can help get rid of any fluid retention. Vegetable juicing celery is good because it also contains potassium which is good for the skin. This serves one pint of the beverage.

This next recipe is good for reducing your cholesterol levels. Grapefruit is recommended forits rich source of bioflavanoids and vitamin C which protect your arteries. Blueberries, my favorite, are also potent antioxidants. Apples can help prevent hardening of the arteries and reduce cholesterol.

Combine 250 grams of blueberries, 125 grams of grapefruit, 250 grams of apples and 1-inch cube fresh root roughly chopped ginger into the power juicer and the health drink is ready to serve.

Wheatgrass is full of nutrition because it is filled with protein, enzymes, minerals high levels of chlorophyll which is anti-bacterial and helps build the blood as it is very similar in structure to Hemoglobin.

Put a handful of parsley, one green cocktail, one shot of wheatgrass and two celery sticks in the electric juicer then drink immediately an empty stomach after juicing.

Another recipe consists of a 24 ounce pumpkin that is deseeded and skinned, three oranges and one inch root ginger. Using seasonal fruit and vegetables in our juicer recipes can help us obtain a widespread balance of nutrients. Pumpkin contains vitamins A and C which help boost our immune system.
